ADKISSON, Carol Lydia
January 13, 1955 - July 30, 2014
Carol slipped away peacefully at the University of Alberta Hospital, with family at her side. For most of her fifty-eight years, Carol courageously endured the tragedy of manic depression. She finally succumbed to the damages her illness had caused to both her mind and body. Although her family is deeply saddened by her passing and will miss her forever, they are comforted in the knowledge that her suffering has come to an end.
Carol is survived by her siblings, Linda (Keith), Lorie, and Barry (Judy); nephews and nieces, Matthew (Adeline), Adam, Elyse, Travis, Amy, Evelyn and Nicolas; her aunts, Vera and Jean and their respective families. She was predeceased by her mother, Sophie, and father, Harry.
In her early years Carol loved being in the outdoors and horseback riding, particularly at Rainbow Valley. She graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Engineering in 1978. She was very proud to be an alumnus of the Department of Chemical Engineering and always looked forward to participating in the Engineering Week festivities. Due to her illness, Carol retired from her chosen profession early in her career. In subsequent years, when she was well, she put her talent for detail and organization to work as a researcher and volunteer on various community projects.
Carol's family wish to acknowledge and thank Barry and Judy for their unwavering support of Carol throughout the course of her illness. They are also grateful to the many dedicated Alberta Health Services professionals who participated in Carol's care over the years, most recently the staff of Unit 5A2 at the University of Alberta Hospital. Carol's ashes were scattered in a private ceremory in the Eternity Garden in Beechmount Cemetery.
Anyone wishing to honour Carol's memory with a donation may do so to the Canadian Mental Health Association at http:/ / to CKUA Radio at
