With great sadness, the family of Dick Pilger announces his passing on February 18, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Dick was born in Camrose, Alberta on September 12, 1927, and was raised on the family farm in the nearby Heatherbrae district. In 1951, he married Hazel Berg, who had come to the district as a school teacher. The couple eventually settled in Sherwood Park, enjoying a busy family life with six children. Family was always important to Dick, along with hard work, tending his garden and keeping up with current affairs. Dick will be missed greatly by Hazel; his children and their spouses, Rick (Marion), Renee (Jake) Pasma, Brad, Teresa (Norm) Gagnon, Brent, and Chris (Stella); and his nine grandchildren, Katherine, Neil, Kristin, Shannon, Leah, Paul, Lily, Juliana and Ruby. He is also survived by his brother Kurt (Helen) and his sisters Kay (Walt) Shaw and Rita (Eugen) Wolski.
He was predeceased by his brother Hans and his sisters Doris Day and Betty Sundberg.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, located south of Wye Road on Range Road 232 in Sherwood Park.
Those wishing to honour Dick's memory can do so by making a donation in his name to the Cross Cancer Institute to fund amyloidosis research.
