AHRENS, Elaine Marilyn (nee Lukenchuk) October 7, 1944 - October 29, 2008 With heavy hearts and loving memories the family of Elaine Ahrens would like to announce her passing, following a long term illness, on October 29, 2008 with her loved ones by her side. Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Peter, her parents Andy and Elsie Lukenchuk (of Kelowna), three stepchildren Ravic, Jasmin, and Sabine, her brother Ken Lukenchuk (of Kelowna), brothers-in-law Roman (Karen) Zajonz and Alvin Zajonz. Elaine also leaves to mourn her passing three grandchildren, numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandparents Peter and Lena Lukenchuk, John and Mary Kostiuk, as well as her uncle Albert Kostiuk. Elaine was born in Drumheller, Alberta in 1944. She grew up and went to school in Vegreville and graduated as a Registered Nurse 1967, at which time she moved to Edmonton. She had a long and rewarding career working as a labor and delivery room nurse at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, developing a unique sisterhood of friends that remained close to her throughout her lifetime. Elaine's home was always her castle. The beauty of her gardens and the warmth of her kitchen made it a very special place to be. She was devoted to her husband and family and will be sadly missed forever and always. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of Unit 43 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their excellent care, kind words, and compassion during a most difficult time. You were very much appreciated. "Her garden is now a quiet place... Soft memories linger there, And every bloom tomorrow brings Will be a part of her we'll share." A Celebration of Elaine's Life will be held at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St. Albert Trail, on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.; with Deacon Paul Croteau officiating.
