PULOS, Evangeline Anagnostopoulos
June 2, 1912 - January 15, 2013
Evangeline Anagnostopoulos (Pulos) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Calgary, AB, near her family.
Born in a small mountain village in Greece, Evangeline immigrated to Alberta as a young girl. Though she endured hardships, she came to embrace Canada as her own. Edmonton was her home for over 70 years, where she raised a family and was a beloved and active member of the Greek community. She had many lifelong friendships and lived independently, tending her garden into her late 90s.
Evangeline was predeceased by her husband Constantine (Gus) and is survived by her son Nicholas (Lila), daughter Penny, granddaughters Eloise (Rex) and Elizabeth (Donny), and brother John Papoulias and his family.
A prayer service will be held in Edmonton on Friday, January 18 at the Central Memorial Chapel/Appel Funeral Home, 10530 -116 Street, from 6-8PM; Rev. John Kaoukakis will be officiating at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. in St. George's Greek Orthodox Church 10831 - 124 Street. Following interment at Westlawn Cemetery there will be a reception for friends and family in the hall of the Greek church.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Chinook Care Centre, Colonel Belcher Lodge and Rockyview Hospital who showed Evangeline much kindness the year that she lived in Calgary. In Edmonton, special thanks to Tara.
