ESAIW, Gerald John (Gerry)
October 11, 1935 – May 13, 2018

Gerry passed away peacefully on Sunday at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Rose-Marie, children Michelle, John and Lisa, brothers William and Victor, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gerry was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the 4th Degree with St. Francis de Sales in High River. He was born and raised in Edmonton and moved to Calgary in the mid 1960's. However he remained a loyal Eskimo and Oilers fan throughout, which made for some interesting team rivalries at home. He spent most of his career working as a landman in the oil and gas industry. After retirement, he and Rose-Marie moved to High River as they both preferred the pace of small town life. For health reasons later in life, both returned to Calgary.
Gerry was a very proud man. He had a deep faith in God and a strong sense of tradition. Being honourable, loyal and doing the right thing was always important to him. He was very thoughtful and considerate of family and friends and went out of his way to help others when needed. He enjoyed the family cabin at Pigeon Lake, going to the mountains, golf (for the first few holes), fishing, and watching football, hockey and old westerns. He loved listening to opera, classical music and old country. He was a great fan of war history and read many large books with fine print on this topic focusing on Diefenbaker and Churchill. Collecting stamps and coins in his early years was a hobby he enjoyed as well. After suffering a paralyzing stroke, Gerry spent the last years of his life in Providence Care Centre where he was actively involved in bible study classes, resident council matters and enjoyed Guinness beer on pub nights.
