Harry Goldberg June 7, 1934 - March 7, 2013 On March 7, 2013, the world lost a real "mensch" with the passing of Harry Morris Goldberg, 78, our cherished husband, father and grandfather. In dad's final days he was surrounded by his wife of nearly 54 years, Fran, his boys Murray and Lindsay, daughters-in-law Ann and Marnie, and grandchildren Erin, Halley, Kayla and Matt.

Harry was born June 7, 1934, was raised by loving grandparents and always chose family as his priority. Harry often credited his participation as percussionist with the Edmonton School Boys Band as a turning point in his teenage years that set his course on a productive and happy future. As a young adult Harry served in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve at HMCS Nonsuch in Edmonton and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander of the Navy League Cadets. Harry was a self-made man, finding a successful career in university and government administration, ultimately as Chief Electoral Officer for British Columbia. Harry was a community leader and volunteer, generously serving with the Lions Clubs in Calgary and Medicine Hat, and later as President for Temple Emanuel (Victoria) and Beth Shalom (Edmonton) synagogues and on numerous synagogue committees. Music continued to feature prominently throughout Harry's years as choir member at the Beth Shalom Synagogue in Edmonton and as a drummer with the Edmonton School Boys Alumni Band.

Harry touched people in a gentle, kind and quiet way. He will be remembered most for his gifts of patience, tolerance and unwavering love of family. Although Harry's presence will be missed by friends and family, those gifts are with us always.

Funeral services were held at Har-El Synagogue Sunday March 10, 2013. In lieu of flowers, Harry's family asks that you consider a gift in his memory either to the Alzheimer Society of BC or Congregation Har-El Synagogue in West Vancouver.
