Mom peacefully passed away with family by her side, on December 29,2012 in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob in 1972, Caroline in 1973, her husband Art in 1982, only brother Fred in 1983, son-in-law Pekka in 2007 an grandson William in 2011. Helen will be deeply missed by her children Sylva (Brian), Kandice (Art), Roma (Bill) and David (Shannon) as well as grandchildren Maegen (Mike), Nathan (Rowena), Richard (Laurie), Christopher, Cael (Rae) Aaron and Iain and great grandchildren Ayva, Grady, Nicole, Reece, Hailey and Hannah. Mom was born July 27, 1921 in the Peace River District of Alberta to pioneering parents. She grew up on the family farm and attended Lower Beaverlodge School. Helen married Arlo Jurney in l94l. They had one daughter, Sylva. Helen was employed in the restaurant industry in Edmonton, Ponoka and Grande Prairie, where she met her future husband Art. They were married in 1952, worked and raised their family of four in Banff, Alberta, and culminated their food industry careers as proprietors of a Pancake House in Chilliwack, BC. Mom eloquently filled many roles: wife, mother, grandmother, friend, cook, baker, church member, bereavement councilor and was rarely idle. She maintained her youthfulness by continuing to ski and hike well into her senior years and shared much fun and humor on these outings with her friends, children and grandchildren. She particularly enjoyed trips to Vancouver Island, Quebec and parts of Eastern Canada. In 1999, Helen moved to Saskatoon, spending time making new friends in the neighborhood and walking with her canine companion "Duchess" along the river paths. In 2009, she moved to the Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sunnyside for the unfailing and devoted care Mom received while residing there. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Gift Guide Program at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre, 2200 St Henry Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7M OP5.
