GOWANS, Irene M.I.
July 17, 1922 - January 23, 2013
Irene Gowans passed away peacefully at the Youville Extended Care in St. Albert. Born in Moose Jaw, Irene and her husband Jack raised four children Paul (Lise), Janet (John) Jim (Catherine) Bill (Irene) before moving to St. Albert in 1964. After several years in St. Albert, Irene and Jack moved to Lethbridge and then to Calgary where they settled for many years. After Jack's passing in 1989, Irene continued living in Calgary for another 10 years before returning to St. Albert to be near family.
Irene was a beautiful person both inside and out - her giggles were infectious. Irene and Jack had many, many friends. Together, they loved to entertain, camp in the mountains and travel. Irene was a gifted artist and spent many years in floral arranging and painting beautiful scenes of the prairies for her home and the homes of her children.
Irene was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Hindman and her sister June Hill. Left to mourn Irene's passing are her four children and spouses, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the St. Albert United Church on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church.
