On Sunday, February 17, 2013, John Erhart Schaupmeyer of Mayerthorpe, AB passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years.
John was predeceased by his
wife, Francisca (1989) and son, Derk
(2012). To cherish his memory, he leaves
son, Max (Brigitte) of Barrhead; daughter, Berdien (Randy) Johnson of Grande
Prairie; grandchildren, Kerry (Francois), Sean (Lee-Anne), Uri (Katy), Beau (Dawn) and Leana (David); five great-grandchildren; brother, Godfrey "Bud" of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Elfrieda and Max; brothers and sisters, Max, Frieda, Charles, Edwin and Helen.
John was a trapper, farmer, proud veteran of WWII, carpenter, stone mason, committed member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126, Mayerthorpe. He was a frequent visitor on significant war anniversaries to Europe, always stopping at war veteran's gravesides to remember his fallen comrades. These visits were to Holland and France. John was a recipient of numerous Legion Medals, as well as the prestigious "Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal".
A Gathering of Family and Friends to Celebrate John's Life will be held on Friday, February 22 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Mayerthorpe Legion. Words of Remembrance will commence at 3:00 p.m. with a Legion Tribute to follow. Private inurnment in Mayerthorpe Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126, Box 426, Mayerthorpe, AB T0E 1N0 or to the Mayerthorpe Cemetery, Box 420, Mayerthorpe, T0E 1N0.
