BUERGER, Katherine nee: Sydor
December 16, 1922 - May 11, 2013
On the beautiful spring afternoon of May 11, 2013, our mother Katie passed away at the age of 90 years.
She was born in the Ukraine and came to Canada when she was nine. Katie instilled her strong morals and values of hard work, personal sacrifice, honesty and social responsibility to her descendants. She was an active member of the Newbrook farming community, the Women's Institute, Red Cross, Home and School Association, and 4H. Katie will be dearly missed by her daughters, Dolores Brown and Sharon Cox; her sons, Wayne (Linda), Allan (Brenda), Bradley, Lynn (Sharon), Melvin (Chris); daughter-in-law, Zuzana; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter. Katherine's absence will also be keenly felt by her sisters, Olga and Mary; brothers, Fred (Lorraine), Bill (Lou) and Orest (Sophie); and sisters-in-law, Olive and Pearl Sydor. She was predeceased by her husband, August; son, Denis; daughter, Estelle Zita Botfield; and three infant children, Laverne, John and Baby Buerger; son-in-law, Dennis Cox; sister, Joanne; and brothers, Walter and Andrew.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. Viewing to take place one hour prior. Interment to follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Edmonton Chapter, Edmonton Epilepsy Association, and Edmonton Down Syndrome Society.
