Born October 5, 1941, Larry Marvin Strom touched more lives than he ever could have known. As a son, he honoured and loved his parents, as a brother, he mentored two younger siblings. As a husband, he brought joy and shared himself, as a father, he nurtured and loved unendingly. As a grandfather, he beamed with delight and taught patiently. As an educator, he shaped lives and grew adults, as a carpenter, he created homes and places for families, and as a rancher, he loved his cows almost as much as he loved to eat them.
Larry excelled in all of his roles, and grew into a farm boy in Beulah, North Dakota who started school in a one room school house, into a man who was offered a full scholarship for a PhD program. He turned down the scholarship and chose a path that would allow him more time with his most precious asset - his family. Listed in "1972's Outstanding Young Men of America", Larry was always an advocate for volunteerism and community. He has been a member of The Jaycees, The Masons, and of The Lions Club. After retiring from over 35 years as a teacher of Chemistry and Physics, Larry and his wife, Vivian, moved to Redwater, Alberta where he became even busier as a Grampa. Always emphasizing the value of education, he called his children and grandchildren on the first day of school, from playschool through university and beyond. Proud of his children, he never wavered in his love and support even when he didn't quite understand. In love with his wife, he shared everything with her, and continued to flirt with her right up to the end.
Larry passed away peacefully in palliative care at Redwater Hospital on February 10, 2013, after a short but hard fight with brain cancer. Those of us left behind have never questioned his love for us, and we know he has gone home to the Lord.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Marvin Strom, and his granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Strom.
