THURBER, Lorne Allan
September 28, 1951 – August 3, 2012
With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Lorne on August 3rd, 2012.
Lorne is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dawn: sisters Wendy Thurber Gratton (Mark), and Cindy Crawford; brother James Thurber; brother-in-law Ron Peddle (Jan); sister-in-law Linda Peddle; mother-in-law Elsie Peddle; nephews Adam and Jaime Spratt, Stephen Crawford; and nieces Jessica Spratt and Stacey Crawford. Lorne also leaves behind a loving mix of aunts, uncles and cousins from the Thurber, Merchant and Peddle clans as well as many cherished friends from the adventures of a life well-lived. Lorne was predeceased by his father Charles Samuel Thurber (1960), mother Maralyn Merchant (1987) and father-in-law Foster Peddle (1998).
Born in Wainwright, Alberta, Lorne finally settled in St. Albert, Alberta, after enjoying a variety of careers across the land. These opportunities included forestry, meteorology, CN Linesman and finally working at ATCO IT in computer technology.
Lorne was a man of many interests who chose to look forward rather than back. He had a great capacity to live in the moment and to take joy in the here and now. Lorne's life was greatly enhanced by love for his wife, Dawn. Their ability to combine Lorne's acerbic wit with her tempering calmness created a caring, supportive and utterly loyal union.
Unique, humourous, sharp-tongued, generous and fiercely loyal are apt descriptions of this man who placed love of family above all else.
We will forever miss you, Lorne.
