Martin Davis passed away peacefully during the night on June 7, 2013 at the age of 76 after a long illness.
Martin was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on February 16, 1937. There he apprenticed in the aircraft manufacturing sector and worked as a journeyman. In 1958 he immigrated to Canada, where after several jobs in the aircraft repair industry in Edmonton and Yellowknife, he upgraded his education to enter the University of Alberta and graduated with a BEd in 1973. Martin taught Drama, Language Arts and Social Studies for the Edmonton Public School system. For most of his career he taught at McKernan Junior High. He retired in 1998.
Martin leaves to grieve his loss, his beloved wife of almost 42 years, Louise; sister, Barbara (Olaf) Storaasli of Tennessee; brother, Jack (Nydia) Carlson of New York. His godson, Darcy Philp, had a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard and both parents. He also leaves his cousins Noel Lavery, Brian (Carolyn) Lavery, Steven (Kathryn) Lavery, Patricia Lavery and Isabelle (Len) Cool; in-laws, Robert (Marion) Lefebvre, Jeanne (Wally) Brauer and his Lefebvre, Voller, MacDonald, DesHarnais, Spencer and Carlson nieces and nephews and close friends. He was much loved.
Martin was a lover of the English language in all its forms but especially Irish plays. He also enjoyed hiking, cycling and symphonic music.
A Memorial Service will be held at Connelly- McKinley - Sherwood Park - Mill Woods Chapel, 4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton (Meridian Street can only be accessed heading SOUTH on Hwy 216 (Anthony Henday); the access is 1 km south of the Sherwood Park Freeway on Hwy 216) on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
