COX, Mary Dunn (nee Laird)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and dear friend on November 18, 2012 at the University of Alberta Hospital. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, David Thomas Cox in 1993. She was also predeceased by her parents and siblings: Donald, Janet "Nita", Florence and William "Bill". She was born in Paisley, Scotland on September 10, 1931 and came to Canada in 1949. Mary was a long term resident of Ritchie Pioneer Lodge and recently moved to Riverbend Life Style Options in Edmonton, Alberta.
Mom will be sadly missed by her daughters, Eleanor and Patricia "Paddy"; and her son, William "Bill" and their spouses: Hal Harris, Gerry Hoyland and Donna Cox. Nana is survived by her eleven grandchildren: Craig, David, Geoffrey, Thomas, Christopher, Erin, Sarah, Jennifer, David, William and Louise and their spouses; as well as nine great- grandchildren.
Mom and Dad worked for the City of Edmonton in the 1950's and we resided at Whitemud Park Lodge. Dad was caretaker of the park – running of the ski hills, and had the "Best Skating Ice" on the creek, with mom in charge of the concession, where she was known for her hot chocolate and hotdogs. Mary later worked for Woodwards and the Hudson's Bay Company at Southgate Centre. Mary volunteered for many years at the Good Samaritan Long Term Care Facility.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Appel Funeral Homes, 10530 - 116 Street, Edmonton, Alberta. In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 10985 – 124 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5M 0H9.
