McGEEAN, Olga (née Dron)
On November 25, 2012, Mrs. Olga McGeean (née Dron) of Sherwood Park, Alberta, passed away at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband James and brother Victor, Olga was loving mother to Maureen, Kathy, Jamie, daughter-in-law Pam, and honorary daughter Glenna Cooke Westwood, and adoring grandma to Carlyn and Miranda.
Olga was born in Edmonton in 1924 and grew up in Beaverlodge and on the family farm near Lymburn, Alberta. While teaching school and attending university in Edmonton, she met her husband James ("Jimmy"), whom she married in 1954. The couple moved from Edmonton to Calgary, where their children were born, and she embarked on a life full of friends, fun, and a dedication to teaching. Olga taught in a number of schools, both in Alberta and overseas, where Jim's career in the oil business took them several times, and she eventually returned to the University of Alberta in the 1980s to obtain her diploma in Library Science. After a number of moves, she and Jim settled in Sherwood Park. Olga absolutely adored her many friends and neighbours, and with her infectious laugh and invariably cheerful outlook, she was a valued friend and a second mother and grandmother to many. We will all miss her dearly.
Special thanks to Dr. Dusang, the wonderful nurses from Strathcona Home Care and to dear friend Liz, who all made it possible for Mom to spend her final days in the comfort of her own home.
A Celebration of Olga's Life will take place on Saturday, December 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Park Place Funeral Home, 51 Broadway Boulevard, Sherwood Park. Cremation has taken place, with Inurnment to follow at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Strathcona County Library.
