Just returned from Walt's funeral-very emotional send off for a great guy!
One of Walt's mistakes in life was an offer to look after our young Samoyed Husky pup while I was in San francisco working on the engineering for what was to become the Syncrude plant in Fort McMurray. The dog was young and before I was out of town the dog had chewed apart the seat in Walt's truck in addition to some carpeting in his home. Despite my offer to find other accommodations
for the animal Walt insisted on following through with his offer-he later sent the dog to stay (if I remember correctly) with his sister near Canmore-the dog lived a long and productive life-and according to Walt helped to increase the Samoyed population in the area. So you see-Walt not only made people happy but did the same for our canine friends.
I played "Oldtimers" hockey with Walt for a few years-unfortunatly his intensity and combative spirit required at times some diplomatic negotiations with the opposition so that the game could continue-he was a very intense competitor. We had to be nice to Walt because he had bought the team uniforms and for a number of years we were known as the Fort Saskatchewan Bucks.
As our paths crossed on occasion through the years he always greeted me with his big smile and hearty hello and sincere interest in Arlene's and my lives.
Best of luck on the other side Walt-don't believe there are any penalty boxes in Heaven!
Sincerely
Don and Arlene McIntosh

Laura- Marie and family.
My "Sincere Condolences" to you and yours.
The mood at the golf course will never be the same with Walt gone.
I played in his Tuesday night fun spiels and often Walt would say " Your riding with me Julius" and of we would go. And as we played from fairway to fairway he would give us a life history of each tree as he had planted almost each one himself.
After the game it was golf talk over food and drinks at the club house and of course Walt's jokes and stories.
Rest in Peace Walt.

Dear Laura Marie and Family,
Our deepest sympathies in the passing of Walter.
We came to know Walter shortly after arriving in Fort
Saskatchewan in 1969 he was our choice for a family dentist and a very good one at that. Later our in involvement was with the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital Board, where we had many lively discussions on hospital policy and forward planning. We were not successful at that time in getting a new hospital but it was not a lack of trying.
Walter was very down to earth and very pragmatic, even in his political endeavours, and that was why we keep voting for him even after he detoured from the main stream party at the time.
We have not been in touch the last few years, but will always remember Walter for his cordial greetings any time he saw you, and his happy disposition. We will sorely miss him.
