BUCK, Dr. Walter
Dr. Walter Buck of Fort Saskatchewan passed away on March 14, 2013 at the age of 82 years.
Walter was born in Elk Point on December 16, 1930 to Paul and Ann Buck. He completed his early education at Heinsburg, Ashmont, and Camrose Lutheran College. Later, Walter attended the University of Alberta where in 1955, he obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
In 1956, Walter married Laura-Marie Simpson. The couple made their home in Fort Saskatchewan where they lived happily for their entire 56 year marriage. There, they became loving, devoted parents, raising four children.
Walter's earnest commitment to his dental patients would see a career that spanned
an incredible seven decades. For 22 of
those years, he imparted his passion for dentistry and the community as an associate professor at the University of Alberta, School of Dentistry. It is this same intense belief in service that led Walter into politics in his late 30's, where he served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly form 1967 to 1989.
Walter then embarked on his 3rd career.
He built and operated a 27 hole golf course named Fort-in-view. Walter felt he did
not have enough to do, so he also spent two terms on the County Council representing constituents in Sturgeon County.
Walter was a vibrant, loving soul, who touched the lives of many. He took great pleasure in sharing his gift for story-telling, entertaining family, friends, patients, and colleagues.
Walter will be greatly missed by his wife Laura-Marie (nee Simpson); children Moira Buck, David Buck, Lisa (Brian) Underhill, and Bob (Marg) Buck; grandchildren Stephen, Liam, Ben, and Emily; brothers Ed (Marie), Alan (Donna); and sister Paula.
Walter's family invites you to join them in a Celebration of Walt's Life to be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Dow Centennial Center, Shell Theater,
