LINTON, Margaret Elizabeth
October 24, 1923 – June 8, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret (Peg) Elizabeth Linton (Colville) of Edmonton. She is survived by her two children Ann (Rick) and Neil (Ruth); grandchildren Abby (Tom), Gwen (Chris) and Laura (Adam); as well as great-grandchildren Alice and Kenneth. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years Owen Turnbull Linton.
Peg was born in Edmonton to Neil MacNeill and Margaret Colville (Lamont), the youngest of five children Mary, John, Neil and Mathew (Mac). In her early years, Peg was heavily involved in competitive basketball coached by J Percy Page with the Edmonton Gradettes and Comets, being temporarily called up to the Edmonton Grads near the end of their era. This was complemented by a successful stenography career after attending McDougall Commercial High School, until her marriage to Owen in 1953. First in 1957, Ann joined the family on Peg's birthday in Regina, and then Neil in the summer of 1959 as Peg began her long tenure as the Matriarch of the Linton and extended family.
In this role of wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend, Peg had a sweetness, caring, loyal, calming and loving way about her that will be missed by any and all that had the fortune of meeting her. Peg's determination is best exemplified by her finally achieving her first 'hole-in- one' at the age of 80 after decades as a golfer. She was also an avid traveller throughout her life with Owen and the family.
Honouring her request for no formal service, the family members welcomes anyone, in lieu of flowers, to make a memorial donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta on her behalf. The entire family wishes to thank everyone for the heartfelt condolences and in your remembrances celebrate her wonderful life.
