Dennis passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Misericordia Hospital on August 29, 2014 at the age of 85 years. He was born in Edmonton on September 28, 1928 and raised on a farm in the Thorsby area. Dennis moved to Edmonton as a young man and drove taxi. He married Teene Helfenstein from Thorsby on May 22, 1950. He became a journeyman steamfitter, plumber and gasfitter. Dennis worked in various places around Alberta and started his own business, Dennis Plumbing and Controls, where he worked until the age of 75 years. Dennis enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours fishing at various Alberta lakes.
Dennis leaves to mourn Teene, his wife of 64 years; daughter, Denise (Gordon) Griffin of Chilliwack, BC and son, Ken (Pat) of Athabasca, AB; granddaughters, Cary, Meagan, Kate and Lucy; grandson, Ryan; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Zoe and Eddy. Dennis also leaves brothers Jim of Edmonton and David (Mabel) of Wetaskiwin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Stashko.

Funeral Service Wednesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, #202, 11227 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5K 0L5.
