DARY, Nina
October 4, 1951 - May 6, 2012
With great sadness, the family of Nina Dary announces her passing in Edmonton, Alberta. In the presence of her loved ones on May 6, 2012, Nina passed on peacefully at the age of 60. She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.
Nina was born in Lacedonia, Italy on October 4, 1951, the second child of Nicola and Angela Caponigro. At the age of seven, Nina immigrated with her family to Canada. She grew up in Calgary and graduated from St. Francis high school in 1970. In 1975, Nina graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce. That same year, she became a proud citizen of Canada. In 1976, Nina married her husband Don, and they moved to Red Deer where they raised their family. Her professional career was at Red Deer College where she spent 19 years as a continuing education coordinator.
Nina exuded compassion, a positive attitude and a gentle spirit. She enlightened, enriched, and encouraged the lives of those she touched. Nina will always be known for her love of jogging, walking, yoga, reading, and hiking in the mountains. However, her greatest satisfaction came from her role as a loving mother and grandmother.
Nina is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Donald; one son, Michael (Gabriella Szerze) and their son, Oliver all of Vancouver, BC; one daughter, Dr. Kimberly Dary (Dr. Costantino Renzi) and their son, Vincenzo all of Edmonton; her mother, Angela Caponigro of Calgary; one brother, Tony (Pamela) Caponigro, two nieces, and one nephew all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her father, Nicola Caponigro, in 1997.
In celebration of Nina's life, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Sunnybrook United Church, 12 Stanton Street, in Red Deer, Alberta. The service will be officiated by Reverend Linda Ervin.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, especially Unit 31, for their compassionate and heartfelt care.
In lieu of flowers, it was Nina's wish that donations be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2.
Nina will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and community. She will live in our hearts and minds forever.
