Gordon Giles Paul of Peace River, Alberta passed away on June 10, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Gordon was born on May 20, 1918 and lived most of his life in Peace River. He was a veteran of the Second World War and spent all but a few months of his service overseas and most of that time in the theatre of war. He was a part of the Italian Campaign as a munitions truck driver and was assigned to the Canadian tank division. He was with the Canadian Forces as it advanced north and he was in Holland at the end of the war. Upon his return to Canada he found employment as an accountant with Horne and Pitfield Foods in Peace River where he worked for more than 25 years. He then began a 15 year career as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Town of Peace River until his retirement in 1983. He was active in his community as a member of the Peace River Legion for 69 years and as a Mason with the Peace River Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the St James Cathedral Parish of the Anglican Church and sang bass in the choir for many years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Irene, his parents Lloyd and Anne Paul and his brother-in-law Ralph Hutchison. He is survived by his children, Catherine and Jack Smith of Edmonton, Glenna and Rick Papp of Calgary, Bill and Donna Paul of Peace River, Brian Paul and Deborah Tennant of Toronto and Bruce and Jill Paul of Calgary and by 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister Doreen Hutchison, his brother and sister-in-law Barry and Madeleine Paul and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held for Gordon on June 16, 2012 at St. James Anglican Cathedral in Peace River with Dean Ian Luke officiating and Bishop Fraser Lawton presiding at Communion. Gordon has been cremated and the family will gather again to inter his remains at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Peace River. May God Bless Gordon.
