TANSOWNY, Joan (Lobley)
The Guest Book is expired.
After 88 years, a bright light Joan (Lobley) Tansowny went out.
Born July 19, 1924, with twin sister Helen, Joan was raised on Fred and Annie Lobley's farm near Sundre with Helen, and brothers Jack and Jim. After High School, she earned a Teacher's Certificate from Calgary's Normal School and moved to teach grades one to nine, in the one-room!! Grandale School, 20 miles north of Barrhead.
There, she met Fred Tansowny and married July 26, 1945. They raised John (Peggy Arbeau), Shirley (Dennis Rau), Linda (Brian Sawatsky) and Bob (Corrine Montgomery) on a farm near Neerlandia, along with pigs, chickens, cows, dogs, the occasional cat, Mickey (a stray budgie) and the odd turkey. Joan was a stay-at-home Mom, wife, farm- hand, gardener, cook and bottle-washer, barber, whist player and a pretty good curler.
She returned to teach at Linaria and Neerlandia until 1969, when Fred and Joan moved to Barrhead. Fred worked for McLeods and Joan substitute taught at Barrhead High School, then worked for the ALCB until 1986, when they retired.
Blessed with good friends sharing their love of RVing, fishing and cards, they camped across Canada, U.S. and Alaska, vacationed in Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto Rico and enjoyed life. Joan was the Energizer Bunny - always active loving her family, kids, grandkids, students, friends, cards, bowling, curling, cooking, entertaining and photography. Her perogies, cabbage rolls, soups and meat balls are legendary as were family gatherings and parties. She loved life… and while her hugs, kisses, laughter, quick wit and welcoming smile are gone – they are memories that all who knew her can now cherish.
A private service will be held November 20,
at Rose Garden Chapel in Barrhead. Expressions of Sympathy can be made at www.rosegardenchapel.com, and donations in Joan's name can be made to Shepherd's Care, Barrhead, 780-674-4249.
