WHEATLEY, Frederick John Jacques
May 5, 1916 - November 23, 2012
It is with great sadness but gentle relief that the family of Fred Wheatley announces his passing on November 23, 2012, in Edmonton, at the age of 96.
In addition to his strong concern and interest in Canadian public policy, Fred valued integrity and service to others. He demonstrated those values throughout his long career with the federal civil service in Edmonton and in the Atlantic region and through his volunteer work in Edmonton and, after retirement, in the Onoway area and in Morinville.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Laraine (Ben) Strafford of Calahoo; Janine (Vaughan) Harris-Wheatley of Tottenham, Ontario; his son, John of Calgary; his three grandchildren, Genevieve Grady (London, England), Jake Grady (Kettleby, Ontario), and Isaac Grady (Milton, Ontario); and his younger brother, Richard of St. Albert, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Isabell (nee Hay); his parents, Fred and Ada Wheatley; his brother, Robert; and sisters, Maisie and Beryl.
At Fred's request there will be no funeral service - a private family farewell will be held at a later date.
The family extends their thanks to the staff at West Country Hearth, Sturgeon Community Hospital and, in particular, the staff on 2 Parker Pavilion, Lynnwood, for the assistance and care that Fred received over the past three years. Memorial donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 710 - 10123 - 99 Street Edmonton AB T5J 3H1.
