FLOHR, Ross
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ross Flohr. Ross was born in Cut Knife, SK on April 21st, 1942 to Al and Gwen Flohr. The family moved to Alberta and lived in Innisfail during the 1950's. During this time Ross met the love of his life and future wife Rosalee Bergsten.
Ross attended Montana State College to study accounting and returned to Alberta to play for the Edmonton Huskies in the early 60's. Ross and Rosalee were married in 1965 and moved to Calgary to start their family. They moved to Regina and then all the way across the world to Iran in 1978. Ross took a job in Saudi Arabia where many life-long friends were made. After returning to Canada, Ross continued to work in the Oil and Gas Sector. Other job opportunities included travels to Greece, Bangladesh, Panama and Botswana.
After working at BOVAR in Swan Hills and then Alberta Health Services in Red Deer for the remainder of his career, Ross retired at the age of 70. Ross loved football, both on and off the field. He was a member of the Edmonton Huskies Junior Football team (62-64) and inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 for the accomplishment of winning three consecutive Canadian Championships. Ross was also a loyal Stampeders season ticket holder for 20 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Monica (Brad), Cathy (Dave Connolly) of Calgary and his son Dwayne of Olds. Ross loved his five grandsons dearly Jasper, Ambrose, Spencer, Felix and Oakley. He is also survived by his sister Judy (Gary) of St. Albert. Ross was predeceased by his sister Joan, father Al, mother Gwen and more recently, his son-in-law David Wood in 2007 and wife Rosalee in 2009. Ross was a generous and kind man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorial services will take place on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Olds (5241 - 46 Street). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Ross to Ovarian Cancer Canada - an organization that is close to our hearts. Heartland Funeral Services Ltd, Olds entrusted with arrangements. 403-507-8610 www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
