EMCH, Duane David
Passed away peacefully on December 11, 2012 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Duane was born on September 27, 1933 on the family farm near Leith, North Dakota. Duane earned his doctorate in education from Arizona State University and invested twenty-nine years of his life teaching music and directing all forms of choirs, bands and orchestras. Duane taught in Lark and Elgin, North Dakota, Sturgis and Regina, SK, Grand Prairie and Edmonton, AB.
Duane had an incredible passion for music and especially enjoyed directing orchestras, bands and choirs for community, school and church musicals. A love of Duane's was singing in a quartet with his brothers. After his work in music came to a close he started a new thirteen-year career with Manulife. Duane married the love of his life, Elsie Hauge, on June 2, 1956 in Leith, North Dakota. Married for 56 years, they raised six children: Laurie (Doug) Schmidt, Jamie (John) Creelman, Debbie (Randy) Pollock, Brad, David (Patti) and Janine (Philip) Gunther.
Duane was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for eighteen years. He loved the Lord and the Church and sought to live his life as a follower of Christ. Duane is survived by Elsie, their six children, thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on December 18, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church in Sherwood Park. Rev. Wayne Larsen officiating. An interment service will take place at the Leith Memorial cemetery, North Dakota in the summer of 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Norwood Hospice Centre of Edmonton.
