FRIEDEL, Deanna Mary
On January 17, 2013, Deanna (Diane) Friedel passed away quietly at the age of 68.
She was born in Fairview, AB on January 19, 1944 but also lived and taught school in Peace River and then moved to Edmonton.
Diane leaves to mourn, her Stepfather Herman Luck, Brothers Gary (Lorraine), Martin, Robert (Marie) and Ed (Liz) as well as many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her Father Joseph, Mother Mary and Brother Richard.
Injured in a car accident at 16 years old, Diane spent most of her life in a wheelchair but remained active and involved. She finished high school, obtained a B. Ed. Degree at U of A and taught school for some years. She was involved with the Canadian Paraplegic Association and a Wheelchair Dancing group for as long as she was able.
A stroke in 2001 made her move into continuing care but a powered wheel chair partly funded by the Children's Ability Fund allowed her to remain mobile.
Her family wish to thank the staff at Dickensfield Continuing Care Centre for the wonderful care she received in her final years as a resident there.
A Prayer Service will be held at St. Matthew R.C. Church, 13131 - 86 Street, Edmonton, at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday February 24, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Paul Moret also at St. Matthew Church, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday February 25, 2013.
Cremation having taken place, interment will be at the Friedenstal (Fairview) Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
