It is with great regret that we learned of the passing of Sensei Kevin. He has been a customer of ours, and a long time friend of my wife's for many years, decades even. The martial arts community shall feel a huge void in losing one of the "old guards". God bless...

Kevin , O Sensei meant so much to me.I first met him when I registered in his dog school with my first Shepherd Simba. I have spent the past 25 years learning Ju jitsu and along the way he made me a better person. I will never forget him and for what he taught me in life. He has left a huge void in my life one I am not sure can ever be completely filled. We shared many laughs together and always mispronouced my last name as Hernandez as opposed to Fernandes. When I first came to his dojo being a natural athlete and being an Ex Olympian everything seemed easy for me. But learning Ju Jitsu was a challenge and it showed me how to be respectful , be honourable and integrity. He was an amazing Master in the arts and Dog Trainer and I will cherish the memories. Thankyou Kevin for crossing my path. Always will remember and miss you. Aaron Fernandes.

My condolences to Kevin's family.
I know he has left a large void in everyone's life.
Thanks Kevin for being the inspiration you were not only in training my dog but in life as well. I was fortunate to be on the demo team in the 90's for years sharing lots of good times and laughs. Those were truly great times.
I will forever cherish the memories till I meet you again my friend.

I first met Kevin while working for the Reveen show, Kevin supplied a germanshepard dog to Peter and Coral as a watchdog.Kanga was a well trained dog who protected the dressing rooms in theatres all accross North America. He was a funny rodeo clown among the many mantels he wore. More recently he was a member of the Edmonton Magic Club and volunteered his time in aid of AbraKidAbra an anual magic show presented by the club to rais funds for children related chairities.Rest in peace my friend and I shall break a wand in your memory.

Brother Gary & I knew him only as "Kevin" (aka Conga's Kevin)..we would run into him each week at Casino Edm/Yellowhead, when we'd go to see the bands playing...sometimes we'd share a table, always took time to catch up on news with us...very kind, friendly gentleman...only learned of his 'last' name today, in that beautiful story in The Edmonton Journal! Wow! Amazing life, amazing man. Our condolences to his family...brothers,Keith & Gary Kinloch

Kevin and I were friends back in "the sixties". I lived in Argyll, just across the creek from him, and he was a good friend to me. We shared enjoyment of rock n roll music, and both loved dogs. I esxpecially remember his big boxer, Kelly. I am sorry that I hadn't seen Kevin for many years, and I know he will be missed by his family, which I am sure still includes a good dog.

My deepest sympathies go out to the George Family. Kevin was like an Uncle to me, as most of my Father's childhood friends have become. His sense of humour and kind heart will never be forgotten, just like his conga solos :). Kevin and TLC (Terry Cameron) are ripping it up beyond the pearly gates - I just know it.

Kevin was one of a kind. A friend's friend who taught me so much. I grew up down the street from him and Kerry and he was my Sensei. A selfless teachers who's demanding ways made me a better person. Even if my jiu jitsu never amounted to much. I was his biggest challenge. Finest kind.

What a sad loss. Met Kevin when I was about 8 yrs old when my mom started training our GS dog. That was almost 40 yrs ago. Kevin also taught me self defence in my teen yrs. I still remember his words of wisdom. Then took my Standard Poodle to his dog training classes 15 yrs ago.
He was a good person with a big heart. My thoughts go out to Ryan and Kevin's mom. Thanks for the lifetime of memories and teachings, Kevin.

In life, we are presented far too seldom, with individuals that are our guide, a mentor who sees something special in us and opens the door to let that come forward. An individual who teaches us much more than the simple basics but helps us to discover what truly is possible. For some it is their high school math teacher, some a college professor, some even their life partner. For me, it was a very special friend, who after some long and difficult persuasion allowed me into his martial arts school, against as he often reminded me, his better judgment at the time. I was everything that Kevin despised, a dope smoking, long haired skier, windsurfer and mountain biker. Going to University with little or no real direction and way too much energy which most of the time was overwhelming to both myself and those around me. My one redeeming quality in his eyes at the time was that I had somehow convinced his friend Anita to marry me.
Perhaps it was the determination I showed in the year following meeting him, continually asking to be a part of the dojo, or perhaps the stupidity (he originally thought it was courage) that I demonstrated when he wanted to try some new drills with his new Dog Asta.
Either way, Kevin finally allowed me into the dojo and taught me how to control that energy. He involved me in his dog training school as a quarry with the aggression classes and involved me in his training of the City Police K-9 unit. He taught me of the true nature of Budo and its adaptation for modern life. He gave me the direction I so dearly needed and for that I will be eternally grateful.
I can only guess what would have become of me had I not met Kevin, all potential with no ability to succeed. Though I have not been able to be a part of the Dojo and have not spent much time with Kevin since moving from Edmonton, his departure has left a major hole in my heart and soul. he will be missed!

My condolences to the George family. Kevin was one of my best friends. I will honor and remember him by emulating what he has taught me throughout the years. Humility and polite behaviour at the forefront is how I will honor him. Living life to its fullest is how I will remember him. Kevin lived three lifetimes in his short sojourn here on earth. Rest my friend. I miss you. Peace and Harmony are now yours to enjoy.
