Sylvia Ruth Sydney Chetner (nee Dattner) March 31, 1934 - July 3, 2014 Born in Calgary, Alberta in 1934, a "woman of the prairie" Sylvia died peacefully after a long battle with breast cancer on July 3rd, 2014 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Youngest daughter of Samuel and Bertha Dattner (nee Waterman), Sylvia was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Danny Podersky, nieces Lesley and Shari and her sister Beatrice Brasloff.
Loved and cherished by Jack, her husband of 58 years, son Michael Phineas (Bonnie), daughter Saara Laia (Gregory) and favoured only grandchild Daniel Avram.
Loving wife and mother, lover of literature, the arts and the written word, Sylvia served for many years as the Medical Librarian at the University of Alberta.
Survived by brother-in-law Davey (Glenda) and sister-in-law Arlein Chetner, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Allison Theman, the nurses and caregiving staff at the Norwood Palliative Care Unit and wonderful home caregivers Joy and Maria.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday July 6th at 11:30 AM, at the Chevra Kadisha Edmonton Jewish Cemetery, 7622-101 Avenue.
Memorial donations may be made to Banff Centre, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University or the Edmonton Community Foundation.
