WILLIAM JARVIS Obituary
1926 – 2014
William Jarvis passed away peacefully on July 21, 2014 in Vancouver at the age of 87. He is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Constance Madeline (Crowell) and son, William Reginald III (Patricia). Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Geraldine (Noak); his daughter, Jo-Ann Cruikshank (Bill); his son, David and his brother, Richard (Dolores). He will also be missed by his grandchildren William, Robert, James (Stacey), Stephen, Craig (Margaret) and Keith, his great- grandchildren Jaelynn, Brielle, Charollette, his stepchildren, John, David and Anne Derby (Doug Chrumka) and Julia Black (Tim McDougall) and his many nieces and nephews.
Born in New York State to Reginald and Madeline (MacDonald), Bill's family moved to Nelson to be with his grandparents when Bill was six years old, later moving and finishing school in Edmonton. Bill began his career at Imperial Oil where he met and forged a lifelong business partnership with Jim Rae that has endured to this day. A true entrepreneur and business man, Bill recognized the success of a dairy drive- through restaurant while on a trip to Montana in 1953. He returned and launched a successful food service career which included Dairy Drive-In Edmonton, one of the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisees in Alberta; Burger King and Chicken on the Way. He co-founded Korite Minerals in 1979 and Canada Fossils in 1985 and was Chair of both companies. Bill made lifelong friends through his businesses and active memberships at the Al Shamal Shriners, Edmonton Shrine Motor corps, Royal Order of Jesters, Rotary Club of Edmonton, and the Pioneer Gun Club. He was an honorary member of the RCMP Veteran's Association. In later years, Bill spent time in Edmonton, Vancouver and Palm Springs.
People who were in contact with Bill quickly recognized his generosity of spirit, caring nature and his incredible business acumen. Special thank you to Dr. House for his incredible effort in the last few months. Also, a special thank you to Sherril Salvadore, Bill's caregiver over the past three years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Edmonton Petroleum Club at 11110 – 108 Street NW. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Arthritis Society would be appreciated.

To the Jarvis family...our sincerest condolences on the loss of Bill. He was a great guy and the memories just keep on coming...goose hunting, the Chicken store, The Brickyard, Jesters, the Masonic brotherhood, and last but not least all the great times in Palm Springs. Jo-Ann, Bill, and boys & Geri, Don, and family;
Dorothy and I send you prayers of comfort and support. Bill and I have both been members of the Downtown Rotary club for many years. He did some amazing work for the community; saving the Clock tower and being instrumental in the creation of Fort Edmonton Park, are just two of many good works. He'll be missed by many.

Bill was a great man, and always fondly remember spending time with he and his family at the Pigeon Lake cabin as neighbours with our Stebner family. Always recall my father (Garth Hampson) speaking to Bill and telling stories of Bill's famous family connection to the Mounties and the early days of the NWMP (RCMP).
Story below...
W. D. Jarvis was one of nine commissioned officers named in 1873 to command the newly founded Force. On the March West, Jarvis was assigned A Division and at Roche Percée left the main column to shepherd 62 men, 55 sick or tired horses and 50 cows with calves to Fort Edmonton, 875 miles away. The route was often rough and deep in mud yet they arrived in 88 days. After wintering at the Hudson Bay Company fort, Jarvis moved his men 16 miles downstream to the junction of the Sturgeon and North Saskatchewan rivers.
Here they established Fort Saskatchewan from which they policed the north. Commissioner French thought Jarvis a good officer but they had their differences over expenses and reports. In 1881, Jarvis, by then a Supeintendent, left the NWMP.
