Donna (as I knew her) was a mentor for me when I first left University. She a charm and wit all her own. One evening, while imposing upon her hospitality and coffee, I noticed a set of books (The Harvard Classics) which she said she did not want any more. Books were often the subject of our discussions. The set of books still sit on the window shelf where everyone who walks by can see them. In addition to their content, they have introduced us to many neighbours who come by to ask about the books. Of course, I always show them two autographed copies of your mother's books brag how I knew the author. Our discussions and her thoughts often wander through my mind. May all of your memories be a treasury of love.

My thoughts and prayers are with Linda, Warner, Lisa and Kyle and their families. I have known Linda since elementary school, and enjoyed many great times at their home. She had a wonderful sense of humor and she was a hard worker, sometimes staying up until after midnight doing her household chores and working full time. I saw her doing her gardening well after dark in the summertime. She would take Linda and I along on many memorable car trips when she had social work business in other towns or simply to enjoy nature in Alberta. I have so many great memories of sleep-overs at their home growing up and when Linda was in Europe after high school, I spent a lot of time with Mrs. Copeland keeping her company and having some fun times. She even cut my (long) hair at the time ingeniously putting scotch tape along the bottom to ensure a straight cut! There are too many memories to write here, but just wanted you to know how much I cared for her and I am glad she is now at rest. I have been missing her for a long time now. Rest in peace, dear Mrs. Copeland. I love you and will never forget you.

Dear Grandma,
It's no secret that we have always had a special bond. You were not just a grandparent, you were a friend. Your attention and care was never overlooked. I am proud to be a part of your family; a part of you. To hear and see all of the great things you have accomplished and the people you have impacted in your life always reminds me of your strong character and values. Your humor was often unmatched, even in the worst of times. You have showed me life, family, and love.

I am happy that you have finally found peace after years of suffering.

You will be missed. You will never be forgotten.
Love,
Kyle

I remember very well working with Donna Copeland at Beaver House in Edmonton. I began my career with The Department of Public Welfare as it was then called in early 1966. It was a privilege and honor to work with Donna. She was a great stellar lady, admired by all of her colleagues. She was committed to the care children. At this time my thoughts are with her family, let the life that she lived be of comfort to you always.

Mrs. Copeland (the Manitoba-trained nurse of Scottish ancestry) practised social work for many years in an exceptional manner, often under very difficult circumstances. Strong family and religious values, highly developed skills, commitment and a characteristic sense of humour made her a colleague and mentor for scores of caseworkers, support staff, peers and managers while she served the interests of children in care of the state to the best of her abilities.
