James RAE Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from Dec. 24 to Dec. 27, 2014.
RAE, James Duncan
91 years
A gentleman of great strength, pride, generosity and enduring love.
Jim epitomized those quiet unassuming Albertans that just do and make a difference.
Jim began his career at Imperial Oil where he met and forged a lifelong business partnership with William R. Jarvis II. Their successes were Dairy Drive In, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, Chicken on the Way, Korite International and Canada Fossils.
Jim leaves to mourn his wife Elizabeth; children, Linda Rae (Ken), Patti Steele (Gentry), Douglas Rae (Jodi) and grandchildren Brittany and Lyndsay. Stepchildren, Jen Rae (Sally), Geneva Claesson (Jonas), Ashley Middleton and step-grandchild Oscar.
Sincere appreciation and thank you to Dr. Colleen Friesen Medical Director at the Copeman Healthcare Centre, the Canterbury Foundation Medical Team of nurses and caregivers, end of life care attendants Myra, Livee and Doris.
Sincere appreciation to Joy Scott, Director of Health Services, of the Canterbury Foundation for allowing Elizabeth to provide Hospice Care at the Canterbury for Jim. Their dedicated vision of senior care is unsurpassed and remarkably kind.
Thank you to Kelly Dashney, Alberta Health Services, a fine, dedicated young nurse who made a difference.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kipness Centre for Veterans, 6th Floor, 10909 Jasper Avenue T5J 3M9, (cheques payable to Kipness Centre for Veterans). Jim was a WWII Canadian Pilot serving in England and India. A young man, eagerly signing up at the age of 18.
Cremation and private family ceremonies will take place as per Jim's wishes. A celebration of James Duncan Rae's remarkable life will be held in 2015 befitting this fine man.
And to end: words of Queen Victoria the first to her Prince Albert: "I would give everything for a moment in time." Elizabeth and Jim's love for one another went beyond time and place and was felt by all.

My deepest condolences to the Rae family. Jim Rae was an incredible man and had a huge impact on my life as I've known since I was a little girl. He had so many passions; gardening, golfing, cats, traveling and fine dining. I was quite saddened to hear of his passing and have so many fond memories of him. May your memories of Jim bring you comfort and strength. A life worth celebrating!

My condolences to the Rae family. I was a proud employee of Burger King from about 1980-1987. I remember Mr. Rae and Mr. Jarvis stopping in to the "shops" from time to time. The business was well run.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a special man, who saw the best in everyone. Always a gentleman, he enjoyed the company of others and a game of golf. I'll cherish the times that we spent together with Jim and Elizabeth in Hawaii as well as dinners in Edmonton. Rest in peace, dear friend.

It was a great pleasure to have gotten to know Jim. He was always such a positive person and forward thinking visionary, and a true gentleman. I will miss the times on the golf course and our lunches. Listening to Jim's life stories and experiences were very interesting and inspiring. You will be terribly missed but never forgotten.
