Joyce Marilyn Pinckney (nee Reatherford)

February 24, 1943 - August 13, 2015

It is with great sadness that Joyce Pinckney's family announce her passing on August 13, 2015. Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, Bill, her children Julia (Adam) Pinckney Jones, George (Sapna), Elda (Chris) Havlin, and her grandson Logan. She will also be fondly remembered by her sisters, Elda Ward and Linda Kercher and families, and by everyone her life and talents touched.

A proud prairie girl, Joyce accomplished extraordinary things during her 72 years. She was head nurse in pediatrics at the University Hospital in Saskatoon; a batik artist; a belly dancer and host of Edmonton TV show "Belly Dancing with Joyal"; a published author of poetry and short stories; a jazz pianist, composer and educator; and an exemplary Mom, Wife, and Grams. She had a profound impact on thousands of lives through her music, stories, kindness and joie de vivre.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 in St Albert, AB. Please email the family at [email protected] for more information.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Alberta, but flowers (which Joyce loved) are also welcome.

Dance, play, paint, write, sing and love in her honour.

Joyce was a great blessing to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her spirit and zest for life will continue to be honoured through the music she lovingly created and the memories of laughter that we shared when we would play, sing and dance together will be treasured. Sending much peace and light to the family in this time of loss.

Our sincere condolences to all. Joyce was a very sincere friend going all the way back to childhood when our Grandmothers were best friends! Our last visit was at Wiseton's 100th anniversary in 2013 so thankful for those wonderful memories.

We've lost a talented woman, but also a friend. Joyce showed up in Victoria twenty-some years ago and accepted my invitation to join me and my friends for a women-only gathering. (The best kind -- sorry, Bill.) She played the piano and we sang and talked. That evening remains my strongest memory of this lovely woman.

It's hard to imagine life without my dear sister Joyce who has always been such a loving big sister to me. I'm so grateful that she has left behind a legacy of stories, poems, photos and music to remember her by. She was such an amazingly creative, talented, funny, vivacious woman. She'll be greatly missed by me and by all who knew and loved her.
