John Langdon December 24, 1944 - December 31, 2016 John Lloyd Langdon of Edmonton passed away on December 31, 2016 surrounded by family and loved ones. John was born in Nelson, Lancashire, England on December 24th, 1944. The son of a Canadian soldier, John and his mother immigrated to Lindsay, Ontario when he was two years old. An erudite scholar throughout his life, John earned a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Western Ontario. Many years later, while living in England, John found his true calling, medieval history. He worked sedulously to obtain a PhD from the university of Birmingham and earned a full professorship at the University of Alberta where he worked until retirement. He will be remembered for his dedication to his students and the discipline. John is survived by his loving partner Jean (daughters Catherine & Mary); brothers Paul (Inam), Barry & Peter (Heather); sons David (Cinnamon), Daniel (Rishi), Charlie, Ian & Alex; grand-children Teio, Ashley and Niko. John is predeceased by his mother Helen, father Lloyd, aunt Mary, and brothers Lloyd and David. A celebration of life will be held at the U of A Faculty Club on Friday February 3 from 3:30 - 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Amnesty International will be accepted
