Mr. Kenneth Lee Wimmer, age 51, died suddenly April 15, 2014.
Mr. Wimmer, a native of Bluefield, W. Va., began his medical career during high school as a volunteer first responder. After high school he also became a fire fighter
and joined the U.S. Army
, specializing in radiology. After four years of service to his country, he became a civil servant, employed by Liberty Hospital on Fort Stewart for several years. He served as the director of radiology at the Effingham Hospital. Mr. Wimmer spent nearly two years in radiology at Fort Lee, Va., where he received the Commanders Coin Award for Excellence and the Achievement Medal from the Department of the Army for Civilian Service. At the time of his death, Ken was serving fellow veterans in the radiology department of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta. Mr. Wimmer was an avid NASCAR and Georgia Southern University football fan who loved camping and the beach.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Cowart Wimmer, of Bulloch County; two daughters, Heather Elaine Wimmer and fiance' Danial Davis , Pooler and Lindsey Craft (Teddy), Carrollton,; a son Jarrott Wimmer, Effingham; seven grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law , Dr. Yasir and Cathy Hatahet, Wisconsin; a brother, John Wimmer(Melinda), Virginia; his mother-in-law, Hilda Cowart, Savannah; sister and brother-in-law, Robin and David Myrick, Pooler, brother-in-law, Ricky Cowart, Brunswick, an uncle, Melvin Shuman, Stilson and a very special life- long friend, Lonnie Shipley, of Savannah. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 19, from 9-11 a.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will begin in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Reland Morgan officiating.
