WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Lois Helmey Crapps passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, after being diagnosed with cancer last October.
She was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Effingham County to the late George Emanuel and Leonie Zittrauer Helmey; one of seven children and survived by brother, Eugene Helmey of Savannah, and sisters, Mildred Nease of Ridgeland, S.C., and Betty Porter of Savannah.
She and her late husband Master Sergeant Walden "Pete" C. Crapps were members of Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norge, Va., and are survived by their four children, Leon Crapps of Anchorage, Alaska, Billy Crapps of Glennville, Teresa Robertson of Williamsburg, Va., Marsha Demasters of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Remembered by all as "Lois," she enjoyed her church fellowship with the Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church Association which included creating quilts for the needy. She enjoyed extensive travel in the U.S. and abroad with family and friends, and had a never-ending love for cooking and sewing. Above all she dearly loved spending time with her family, church and friends. Her life was and is an inspiration to all who knew her, and it can truly be said that she never met a stranger. Her wonderful caring ways touched many lives.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 121 Noel C. Conaway Rd., Guyton.
The family would like to thank Lois' many friends who provided food, cards, visits, prayer and hospice care during her illness. "God bless you for your generosity and heartfelt concern!"
