Sam Rucker, 89, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at his residence.
The South Carolina native was a member of the Safe Haven Mission Church, served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
, and retired from CSX Railroad as supervisor of the Rail Welding Shop.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Newton Rucker of Guyton; children, Linda Lewis of Columbia, S.C., Terry Bumgardner of Guyton, and Ken Phillips of Savannah; sister, Lula Sturkie of Cayce, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday, May 27, at the funeral home.
Funeral services was Tuesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel.
Interment followed in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
