Shirley (Nelms) Seckinger

Shirley Nelms Seckinger, born Oct. 7, 1934, passed quietly May 29, 2014, at home surrounded by family and friends, to be with her Father and Lord Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Seckinger arrived in Tampa in 1959 and was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Florida Pharmacy School. She began her career at St. Vincent's hospital in Jacksonville, which is where she met her future husband Allen. They were introduced by a friend and reunited later when Mrs. Seckinger's car wouldn't start in front of Mr. Seckinger's apartment. After an appropriate courtship, they married. Mr. Seckinger was transferred by Reynold Smith and Hills to open the Tampa office while Mrs. Seckinger went to work for Martin's Pharmacy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Allen H. Seckinger; son, Edwin Allen (Amy); daughter, Melanie Seckinger Bach (Michael); three grandchildren, Joshua Allen Seckinger, Austin Hutton Seckinger and Ashlyn Lauren Seckinger; her brother, Warren Boger Nelms (Patsy); a nephew, David Nelms (Daryl); and niece, Sandy Nelms Moore (David).
Services will be held Wednesday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 South Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, Fla. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
