– Donnie G. Thomas, 67, beloved father, grandfather and a relentless man of God, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.
Survivors include his children, Toby Thomas (Wendy), Brandon "Blu" Thomas, Savannah Tuten (Jon), Logan Thomas (Maci) and Laura Swain-Long (Will); six granddaughters and two grandsons; beloved brother-in-law, Tex Ritter; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Macy (Carter) and Talmadge Mallard, and Don Thomas; sister, Patsy L. Ritter; sister, Kay and husband, Royce Martin, along with their son, Gary Martin.
Donnie was a Vietnam veteran and a Purple Heart recipient from his service in the U.S. Army and a retired longshoreman with the ILA Local No. 2046. Donnie never met a stranger and, as a devoted Christian, he loved to bring people to the Lord. "For though I am absent in the body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ." Safe in HIS arms, now and forever.
The visitation was Sunday, Feb. 2 in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral was Monday, Feb. 3 in the chapel of the funeral home with burial following at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
