Emma Gene Stanley, 79, of Tybee Island passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, after a long illness with cancer and Alzheimer's.

She was well-known for her baking skills, especially her cinnamon rolls and cookies.
She was a member of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee Island for the last 50 years. She retired from the Chatham County Board of Education with 20 years of service. She worked 17 years at the Fresh Air Home on Tybee as her summer job.
She attended Jerusalem and Bible Lutheran churches for the last five years after moving to Rincon, with her daughter for help with her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Stanley; her parents, Elsworth and Lottie Johnson; three brothers, E. J. Johnson, Loy Johnson and Herman Johnson; and two sisters, Luree Johnson and Geraldine Roberts.
She is survived by a son, Billy Stanley (Diane); three daughters, Bobbie Poplin (Jeff), Betty Robinson (Nick) and Brenda Stanley; four grandchildren, Stephanie Stanley Johnson (Brian), Shawn Sanderlin, Sarah Robinson and River Stanley; a brother, Melvin Johnson (Myrt); and three sisters, Jeanette Duncan (Arthur), Linda Burke (Jackie) and Patricia Johnson; and several-in-laws, nephews and nieces.
A special thanks for the superior care she received her last few months at Effingham Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church on Tybee Island or Bible Lutheran Church in Rincon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest West Cemetery.
