KILDARE-Emory Hinton Bevill Jr., 86, died peacefully in his sleep, Friday Feb. 23, 2007 at his childhood home in Kildare.

As a veteran of World War II, he saw action in the Battle of Midway and survived the sinking of the USS Yorktown. Mr. Bevill farmed and worked in construction as an insulator and was affiliated with Local 96. He was a lifelong member of his ancestral church, Mizpah United Methodist. He was an active sportsman and nature-lover and enjoyed fox and deer hunting and fishing. Mr. Bevill married Martha Farr Smith on June 29, 1947 and this year would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Pauline (Polly) Smith Bevill Marsh of Kildare and Emory Hinton Bevill III of Washington DC.; two grandsons, Robert William Marsh III of Kildare and Matthew Bevill Marsh of Sylvania. He had two brothers and three sisters and is survived by two of those sisters, Lytle Lillian Bevill and Mary Bevill Helmy, both of Savannah.
Visitation for Mr. Bevill was from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25. The funeral was at 11 a.m., Monday at Mizpah United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to Mizpah United Methodist Church, c/o Lisa Sowell, 3889 Springfield Rd., Newington, GA 30446.
