EDEN-Mr. James E. "Jim" Cifers, Jr., 84, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Mr. Cifers was born in Chase City, Va. and had lived in Eden for many years. He was a member of Powers Baptist Church in Eden where he had been a deacon since 1969. On Oct. 15, Powers Baptist Church proclaimed their Homecoming as "Jim Cifers Day." He retired from the United States Air Force after 28 years and served his country in World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired from Forestry Resources (formerly Union Camp) after 10 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Blanche H. Cifers of Eden; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Solomon and Nancy Cifers of Athens, Ala., and Brian T. and Pam Cifers of Guyton; his daughter, Daidre Marie Cifers Royal of Eden; his brother, Lawrence G. Cifers of Henderson, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Gardner of Calif. and Josephine Edge of Ill.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 1 p.m. on Friday at Powers Baptist Church in Eden. Mr. Cifers will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m. at the church.
Interment: Upper Black Creek Cemetery with military honors.
