Jesse Aldrich Obituary

SPRINGFIELD-Jesse B. "Pete" Aldrich, 80, passed away May 21, 2008, under Hospice care from a worn out heart.
Born in Bulloch County, Dec. 20, 1927, Jesse was a true Southern gentleman. He will be missed by both family and friends. He was retired from Kemira and was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran. He was very active and was known most for his love of farming and fishing during the spring and summer. Jesse loved being on his tractor. During the fall and winter (the past seven years) he was employed at the South Effingham Elementary School's Pryme Tyme. He enjoyed children; they kept him young in heart through laughing. He was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Leila D. Aldrich of Springfield; children, Pat Sallette (Michael) of Richmond Hill, Bonnie Newman (Kenny) of Savannah, Teresa Burkley of Savannah, Chris Aldrich of Brooklet, Ann Brown of Brooklet, Carol Ward of Rincon, Beth Romanow (Steve) of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Celeste Drescher of Rincon; a sister, Henrietta Glisson of Pooler; grandchildren, Bubba Bragg (Leigh), Vicki Lincoln (Bryan), Erik Burkley, and John, Jesse, Keny Lee, Lindsey, and Wallace Drescher; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. May 25 in Woods Family Cemetery.

jesse aldrich is my grandaddy, also known as DRENDADDY. he treated me with the most love and passion as i was growing up and i knew that coming home i could return the favor and take care of him as he once did for me. i tried to make him feel as young as he really is. but i will regret everyday that i was supposed to call him that one last time. i knew that i shouldnt have listened to what i was told to do. but i know that drendaddy knows that i think of him everyday and in his honor i always want him by my side, i had his initials tattooed to my left hand wrist. i love you drendaddy and i will forever miss you. see you soon.

love your girl,

Josephine

Mr. Jesse was a fine neighbor, Me and my family have been living in SpringHill Farms now for 18 years and Mr. Jesse was one of the first that we got to know he reminded me alot of my grandfather. He loved his gardens. His silver queen corn was the best as was everything he grew. He was like the papa of our subdivision here.My life as well as many others here is very fast and busy, so if you felt like you missed out on something that involved any of the neighbors...Mr. Jesse was the one to go to and ask. He as a fine man, I enjoyed the talks that we had. He welcomed my oldest son to go fishing in his pond at anytime. All three of my children thought alot of Mr. Jesse. He is so going to be missed back here. It will not be the same not seeing him on his tractor working so very hard, or seeing him at his pond taking care of his trees...our prayers go out to Mrs. Leila and the rest of the family

I have been the principal for the past seventeen years at the school where Mr. Jesse took care of the South Effingham Elementary Pryme Tyme students. He was a special man with a kind heart and the children loved him. He worried about his kids and cared deeply about the events that impacted their lives. Often, he did special things for the children and adults at the school. For example, once he brought his wagon and trailer so that he could take the after-school children on a hay ride around the school. As a special treat, he would often bring a very small snowcone ice-crusher and would spend so much time slowly crushing the ice and making snow cones for the children. Mr. Jesse was an accomplished gardener, who could grow sweet potatoes the size of small watermelons! He sometimes brought those to school as a special treat to many of us. He also grew his own peanuts and regularly provided delicious boiled peanuts for his students as well as the adults!
For the remainder of my life, I will regret not visiting him during the past few weeks as his heart was failing. With the rush that accompanies the end of the school year, I have been working seven days a week and have had little time for anything else, but this is no excuse. I kept thinking that I would go to see him as soon as the school year ended, but I waited too long. I do believe that Mr. Jesse knew that I apprecited him, but I wish I would have found the time to tell him one more time myself.

Mr Jesse was so special to us. I have a 13 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. He touched both of my kids lives and was an important part of their childhood. They both have memories of him that will remain in their heart for a life time. I enjoyed talking to him every day. He always kept me up on all the good camping and fishing spots. I really don't think you have any idea how Mr. Jesse will be missed by those kids at SEE. As my son says. Mr Jesse was the coolest! God Bless all of his family. Our prayers will be with all or you.
