Myrtie Inez Wilson Exley, 98, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at Hospice Savannah.

Born in Clyo to Perry Crumpler Wilson and Fannie Gertrude Edwards, she was raised in Turkey Branch United Methodist Church. After marrying Chancy Exley, her husband of 44 years, she joined the Laurel Hill Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was the organist. Later she joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the adult Sunday school class, sang in the choir, was the pianist, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Lidia Circle.
She worked as the manager at the Star Department Store and later at Sew & Sew Fabric. She was a charter member of the UDC Chapter No. 2285, honorary president, and had held every office within the UDC. She volunteered as a Pink Lady and worked in the gift shop at Effingham Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; grandson, Trey Sheley; siblings, Janie Sikes, Thelma Exley, Ruby Exley, Rudolph Wilson and Howard Wilson.
Survivors include her children, Alice and John Sheley of Thunderbolt, Dallas and Joan Exley of Springfield, Louise and Stan Riner of Rincon; grandchildren, Chan and Ginger Sheley, Gwinea and Steve Burns, Kimberly and Kirk Rahn; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Springfield.
