Sam Rucker, 89, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013, at his residence.
The South Carolina native was a member of the Safe Haven Mission Church, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and retired from CSX Railroad as supervisor of the Rail Welding Shop.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Newton Rucker of Guyton; children, Linda Lewis of Columbia, S.C., Terry Bumgardner of Guyton, and Ken Phillips of Savannah; sister, Lula Sturkie of Cayce, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday, May 27, at the funeral home.
Funeral services was Tuesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. in the chapel.
Interment followed in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
