Clyde Dale Smith, U.S. Army (ret.), 79, and Bertie Walburger Schular Smith, 79, both of Guyton, died. Mr. Smith died on Aug. 1, 2014 at Hospice Savannah and Mrs. Smith died on March 30, 2014 at Candler Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Bellflower, Mo., on Nov. 6, 1934, to the late John Smith and Mary Ellen Harmon Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War and the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Smith served in the civil service for over 20 years at Fort Stewart where he later retired as the alcohol and drug abuse director.
Mrs. Smith was born on Feb. 1, 1935, in Ravensburg, Germany to the late Scwartz Schular and the late Maria Fellenger Schular. She met her husband Clyde while in Stuttgart, Germany, and they later married there. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and worked for Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics for over 14 years for the Exchange at Fort Stewart.
Surviving are their two daughters, Sandra Beaudoin and her husband Walter of Guyton, and Ellen Gajda and her husband Tom of Williamsburg, Va.; their four grandchildren, Brittany Shirley and her husband Nicholas of Savannah, Ryan Phillips of Guyton, Steven Beaudoin of Gainesville, Fla., and Emily Beaudoin of Rincon; his brother, Elford Douglas Smith of St. Charles, Mo.; his sisters, Shirley Gibson and her husband Jerry of Chesterfield, Mo., and Mary Ellen Manning of Oswega, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. at the graveside, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
