Mrs. Essie Inez Sumner, 89, passed on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Essie was born in Baxley to the late James Woodard and Lula Turner Holland. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Marion Sumner; sisters, Wilma Googe, Thelma Dahlgren Gladys Rentz and Bobbie Meadows; and a brother, Foster Holland. She was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church where she attended the Dell Waters Sunday school class. She was a homemaker and was a loving grandmother.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Richard M. and Vicki Sumner, Ron W. and Judith Sumner, Larry C. and Dotty Sumner and Linda and Mark Pritchard; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Gaskin; brothers, Ed Holland and Johnny Holland; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Friday, March 15, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral was Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Rothwell Baptist Church at 216 Rothwell St. in Pooler. Burial followed at Westside Memorial Gardens.
