Dower, E.W. "Bill" 95, of East Dundee, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Highland Oaks, Elgin. He was born December 8, 1918, in Elgin, the son of Edward and Teresa McDowell Dower. He attended Elgin schools and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1937, and received a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University in 1941. He worked for the Elgin National Watch Co. at Plant 2 in Elgin during W.W.II. before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served as a lieutenant on a small aircraft carrier in the South Pacific as a Navigator and was honorably discharged before returning home to his wife, Dorothy (Koss) Dower, whom he married on September 30, 1944. He later built a home where they lived in East Dundee. Bill spent many happy hours fishing from his summer home on the lakes of Northern Wisconsin. He retired as President of Elgin Metal Casket Co. after 35 years of service. Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Dower of East Dundee. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 21, 2011. Private funeral services and burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the .
