ELKIN — Mr. Joseph Miller Collins, 90, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014. Mr. Collins was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Surry County to Richard Paul and Lura Johnson Collins. Mr. Collins was an Army veteran during WWII serving in the European Theater. He was member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and was a member of VFW Post 7794. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Collins and Albert Collins; sisters, Ella Money, Stella Hooper and Maxine Canfield. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alma B. Collins of the home; daughter, Martha Bryant and husband Mike of Denver; brother, Romie Collins and wife Fay of Archdale; sister-in-law, Rosalee Collins of Ronda; grandchildren; Bethany Bryant, Brianna Bryant and Joseph Bryant. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Johnson and the Rev. Justin Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
