Judson Donald Settle

 Judson Donald Settle of the Oakwoods Community of Wilkesboro passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, September 30, 2013 at Wilkesboro Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Greene officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 Monday in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Settle was born December 17, 1934 in Benham, N.C. to Cletus Bliss sand Fancy Tucker Settle. He was a graduate of Elkin High School. After high school, he served two years in the Army at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He retired from Wilkes Telephone Corporation after 34 years of service in the telecommunications industry as an engineer.

He was a member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church. He served many active rolls over the years as a deacon, finance committee member, and Sunday school teacher.

Don will be remembered for his devoted love for his family, wisdom and sound judgment, and his ever present wit. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors, and with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Settle was preceded in death by a son, Mark Ellis Settle, of North Wilkesboro, sister Reba Ross, and brothers, Ted Settle, and Jerry Settle of Elkin.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy Ellis Settle of the home, daughter, Leslie Settle Barnes and husband Eddie Barnes of Moravian Falls; beloved granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Barnes; brother David Settle; sisters Jean Settle and Ramona Jordan of Elkin.

The family will be forever grateful for the prayers and support of all during his extended illness.
