HAMPTONVILLE — Mr. Charles Gwyn Rhyne, 77, of Marler Road, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born Nov. 21, 1940, in Yadkin County to the late Glenn Wyatt and Sarah Mae Martin Rhyne. Mr. Rhyne was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the US Postal Service as a mail carrier with over 26 years of service. Mr. Rhyne was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, was an active member of the Lions Club in Conover where he served as the district governor, and helped with the Lions Club Camp Dogwood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Groce. Surviving are his sisters, Frances (Leo) Collins, Nancy (Otis) Williams, Ruby Alexander, Trixie Darnell, Gayle Wells, Kathy (Gary) Wagoner, Elaine (Gary) Groce; brothers, Bill (Claudia) Rhyne, Jimmy (Mary) Rhyne; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec, 13, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. in the church by Pastor Danny Dodds and Dr. Ed Yount. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover by Dr. Ed Yount for friends in the Conover area. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Dogwood, 7062 Camp Dogwood Drive, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673.
