Agnes G. Kourey, 87, was received into the hands of God, December 31, 2012, while in a Mansfield Hospital. Memorial Services for Agnes will be held in El Paso, Texas at a later date in June. Agnes was born September 2, 1925 in El Paso, Texas to Charles and Rumsey Lyon. She grew up in El Paso, graduated from El Paso High School and in 1960, received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Texas Western College, now the University of Texas
at El Paso. Upon graduation, Agnes began teaching kindergarten at South Loop Elementary and retired in 1990 after 30 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, and the Texas State Teachers Association. Agnes was a longtime member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in El Paso, loved reading Barbara Cartland novels, playing card games and spending time with her adopted Great Danes. Agnes will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosemary Kourey; brother, Charles Lyon and sisters, Theresa Swaya, Dorothy Abihider, Lily Lyon and Adel Lyon. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Animal Rescue League of El Paso. Survivors: son, Nassef Kourey and his wife Dorliss of Cedar Hill; daughter, Jane Nystrom and her husband Richard of Chicago, IL; brother, Joseph Lyon and his wife Jan of El Paso; granddaughters, Gail Giltner of Colorado, Rachel Kourey Mortin and her husband Michael of Grand Prairie, TX and Lisa Kourey of El Paso; great grandchildren, Amber Morsicato of Colorado and Miles Morton of Grand Prairie; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
